Painted in the studio from my memories of the Tomoka River, located near Ormond Beach, Florida (roughly geo:lat=29.338189063782863 geo:lon=-81.08699798583984).... one of my favorite locations... just don't get there enough.

No paint-related experiments this time, just wanted to paint something in oils and I like this location. This one is painted using Winsor & Newton's "Artisan" water mixable oils, Artisan gloss glaze medium and safflower oil on a stretched 11x14 canvas. I did not like the way the river grasses were going on at first, so, being oils, wiped it off and tried again. I plan to add an egrit in it later when the layers are thoroughly dry. The sound track is a rythm track I made using a Mixman DM2 mixed with nature/birds sounds recorded on prior plein air paintouts.

I hope you like it or learn something from it, I so, please leave a comment and a rating.

Thank you for watching!

  • Cool! I'm gonna get started. I visit Costa Rica twice a year and take amazing photos with the intention of painting one day... now I"m gonna get off my tail and make a bold stroke.. thanks for the inspiration...

  • That's GREAT... That's EXACTLY why I place these on youtube! Good luck with your paintings, If I can be of any help, please ask. Happy painting!!! THANKS FOR WATCHING

  • I absolutely love your work!!..So glad I found you here. I even subscribed here at you tube just to watch all your paintings.

I will definately begin painting again. I love all the big sky, landscapes and water and the egrets and herons like you do.

I live at a place that looks like alot of what you paint. I am blessed to have this scenery and want to capture it and have just started painting in recent years since I retired.

    THANKS SOOO MUCH!!

  • Wow! such a wonderful message... thank you. My sole reason for putting these videos up is to help and inspire as others on YouTube have helped and inspired me. So glad that my videos have helped. THANK YOU for watching

  • hmm...i wonder how you wiped off the river gras...i mean,...i just started painting...and lie using oil pastels and if i try to wipe something off......well....it trns out....ummm...

  • Hello, I am using oil paint on this one, which can be wiped off using solvent soaked in a rag. I like oils pastels also, but those cannot be wiped off (different vehicle), however they can be carefully scraped off using razor blades, and sharpened popsickle sticks. There will always be a little of the scraped image showing, but that can usually be covered with fresh oil pastel drawn over it. I hope this helps, thanks for watching.

  • It is so good to see artists willing to take the time to create a video like this. I really like the trees and the way you did the water reflections . I paint with oils too, and I love to watch other artists to learn new ways to paint.

  • I grew up on this river in teh seventies. love it.

  • o goodness! u r awesome! i love ur paintings! its very inspiring...im submitting a piece in a month...so u have given me a lot of help! thank u! u r amazing!

  • you... are... amazing...!!!

  • I like the way you show the picture first, and then paint, I like the way you add your own touches, I find it helps alot to compare the picture with the painting.

    Thank you again.
