Athi River Mining breached contract: Ruto

Cement manufacturer Athi River Mining acted illegally by repackaging fertilizer meant for sale to farmers through a government subsidy program. Agriculture Minister William Ruto says the firm dutifully purchased the fertilizer consignment but breached the contract terms when it attempted to repackage it for resale. In what appears to be the latest scandal to hit government, hundreds of bags of fertilizer meant for the subsidy program were recently impounded at a warehouse in Athi River. Police are investigating the matter.
