Fallbrook Technologies shows how a CVT (Continuous Variable Transmission) can help wind turbines generate electricity and have no need of regulators to produce stable, almost fixed alternating current, as it is required by pwer grids. Note that this CVT has no metal belts: it just shifts over two sandwiches and roller balls, just like any ball bearing mechanism
@mjdurack That link doesn't work but it's impossible to get 100% efficiency out of the wind. The wind has to have an escape so you can't harvest 100% of the energy from the wind interacting with your turbine. The max, according to physics and all sorts of fun equations is about 60%. That said, your generator can be near 100% efficient at converting.
