Describes the operation and testing of the Honda V-Tec hydraulic pressure switch. The ECM monitors the V-Tec pressure switch for a quick response. If the PS does not respond in a specific way and at the right time, it sets a DTC and flags the check engine light. See how it works here with our video training.

  • Hi, i have a Honda Cr-V 2002 and my engine light is on with a 1259 code. What should i replace? The Oil pressure switch or the solenoid or the valve? Recommendations? My car Stutters Violently when i get to about 2700 RPM.

  • @rawrzers Did you do an OIL change? Beware of wrong oil viscosity. If so, replace oil with right value. It is possible to actuate the V-Tec manually and either listen for engine RPM change (not much). If oil is fine, check for oil pressure. There may be a small filter under the V-Tec Solenoid. Remove the Sol and check that you have pressure. Take any precaution not to cause a fire with the oil. post with more...

  • on my h22. as soon as vtec engages fuel cuts out. No cel. tested the pressure switch according to manual and checked out fine. any other suggestions?

  • @07hondacbr Vtec will never kill the engine, unless something's shorting when the Vtec solenoid is activated. Look into that path. WHat's shared with the Vtec sol.????

  • What is the drivability problem?

  • @VMATT500C Drivability issues depend on the system. If Honda programmed a limp-in mode of lower performance, then the ECM may reduce injector pulse, etc. On older systems, the ECM didn't do much in way of reducing performance. But newer vehicles are tougher.
