STS-124 was a Space Shuttle mission, flown by Space Shuttle Discovery to the International Space Station. Discovery launched on May 31, 2008 at 5:02 p.m. EDT, moved from an earlier scheduled launch date of May 25, 2008., and landed safely at the Kennedy Space Center's Shuttle Landing Facility, at 11:15 am EDT on June 14, 2008.
The mission is also referred to as ISS-1J by the ISS program. Completion of the mission leaves eight flights remaining in the Space Shuttle program until its end in 2010, excluding two as-yet-unconfirmed Contingency Logistic Flights.

  • Seeing those engines start up is like watching some organism come to life.

  • @losability That's called the twang. When the main engines ignite, they provide 1.2 million lbs of thrust at an angle, so there's a horizontal force on the shuttle. This causes the whole stack to bend (since the SRBs are still attached to the ground), and then bounce back like a spring. When the stack returns to the vertical, the SRBs are released and ignited (virtually simultaneously). The twang causes the top of the tank to move something like six feet (seen here: watch?v=ExfjSuJxOP8).

  • Awesome!

  • would be alot better if the narrator didnt yell kombat-a pooter-sigh during the launch.

  • from 0:11 till 0:14 it rises and then stops again, can someone explain? All space shuttle launches show that.

  • @samen113 why do youtube people always take everything so serious?

  • @PBEntertainTV i am sure you dont want that

  • I want to have boosters like that ones on my skateboard :)

  • @Puff29646 it was a point of how efficient the shuttle program is dumbass
