Tritium emits BETA particles which stay in glass vial but keychain emits low energy x-rays from bremsstrahlung which can be detected outside the vial.
Most of x-rays can be detected with low energy gamma scintillator.
In next video you can see that radiation are not negligible:

I have similar rods without any plastic, butI really want this size, its prety big, if you don't mind telling me the site so I can order some, and don't worry Ryan5550, this is a safe one I asked about them they have the GBq activity is not that strong, they are low in radio active, and they are non emissive, so wowggscrub should be alright. dn't forget wowggscrub, try giving me the site

@Ryan5550 Tritium undergoes beta decay. You don't have anything to worry about unless you eat it. Beta particles can't penetrate the skin. Might wanna research a little before you go spew-en that internet speak that you ignores are so fond of.

@Keys879 it would spike at like 50- 75 cpm with plastic and then theier would be no counts so the plastic does in fact stop most of the beta particles.

@Ryan5550 It's hardly dangerous at all, unless you have a lot of these and eat them all the time or something (lol), no problem.
Dude your not supposed to take it out of the plastic. Thats is so unsafe. It doesnt matter if your wearing gloves or not.

@Ryan5550 nah i think edible potassium cloride is more active than this .

@wowggscrub potassium chloride is much less radioactive, but your Tritium is behind glass.. Try putting KCl in a thin glass jar then test it

@DjinnJuggler i did i have A video of me testing KCl the needle pegs at 300 cpm this never goes above 200 cpm and the very thin glas of the ampule does very little to stop beta particles . in anycase my uranium ore is 15,000 cpm and still considered safe to handle although i tend to not handle it very much,
