The Great Chaliapin Sings "Vi Ravviso" From Bellini's La Sonnambula 1912

One does not usually think of the great Russian bass as a singer of Italian bel canto opera arias, but this recording of "Vi ravviso..." demonstrates clearly that Chaliapin could in fact sing anything he put his mind to, and very convincingly indeed. He was vocally endowed with all the abilities a singing bass could possibly hope for: range, legato, dramatic intensity, and a rather remarkable flexibility.

man sollte Schaljapin sich auch öfters anhören. Leider habe ich bei "ihm" nicht so ein großes
Interesse gezeigt. Aber er hatte ja eine gewaltige Stimme ohne Zweifel.
Meine Bässe waren nur auf Cesare Siepi und vor allen Dingen Karl Moll gerichtet.
So hat jeder seine Favoriten.
Sollte ich es vergessen haben, nachträglich ein gutes 2012 Gruß Alfred

Love to hear this great singer. His voice is so clear and beautiful. No basso today can sing like this, all too thick and woofy. He is more like a basso Caruso. Wonderful! Thank you for sharing this.
