  • And where did you get the TomTom GO software? I am looking for the same for my Ipaq with Linux.

  • You have to own a TomTomGo - I have a broken one so I considered it reasonable to use the GO software on my zaurus. Simply copying the files is effectively copyright violation - at the very least you should buy a set of maps for your Z.

  • Thanks. I just want to play around to see if it can run on an Ipaq with Familiar. I already have a windows mobile version but I want to get rid of M$ products. I can't find the linux TomTom anywhere (there are zillions of the windows version on torrent sites though).

  • TomTom don't let you download the linux version - the only way to get hold of it is to have the memory card from a GO; the TomTomHome software will update the memory card (whether in a GO connected via USB to the PC or with the card in a USB reader).

  • So how can you turn a Zaurus into a GPS unit?

  • get a CF bluetooth adaptor - or a usb-bluetooth adaptor - then create an entry in rfcomm.conf, do the rfcomm bind, and then soft link /dev/rfcomm0 (or ttyUSB0) to /dev/gps

and then the Z can access the GPS device as simply /dev/gps

  • which parts of the memory card do I need to run this? Or, differently asked, which one is the executable (ttsystem or something?)

Where do the maps go? (do they *have* to be on the same card? could it be a cf card as well, or is it 'hardlinked' to the sd-device? I am also running familiar linux on my pda and the only reason booting windows is starting tomtom.... would be really nice if this isn't necessary any more

  • If it's got Bluetooth connectivity, then you can just sync up with a Bluetooth GPS receiver.
