"Salakot" is originally a Visayan (Ilonggo) folk song or Balitaw which is adapted into Tagalog. The lyrics for the Tagalog version is written by Levi Celerio. Interpreted by "Asia's Queen of Song", Pilita Corrales. Music arranged by D'Amarillo. Audio from a vinyl phonograph LP album ("Salakot, Pilita Corrales", TSP 5073, Vicor Music Corporation, Quiapo, Manila, 1973)

SALAKOT DANCE

The Salakot is a wide brimmed hat. It protects the Filipinos from the sun's heat and from the rains. In this dance the Salakot is used to enchance dance figures and hand movements. It is danced by female only, but may be performed by ladies and gentlemen.
