I applied to the Royal Tennis Club for membership, but they told me to fuck off. Apparently you need to be proposed by two existing members. Must be their way of keeping their club elitist.

Lawn tennis is bigger in popularity but it originated from real tennis there are only round about 30 to 40 real tennis courts in the world.
real tennis just reminds me of squash but the ball is a lot harder than a normal tennis ball and it does travel a lot faster due the the strings being a lot tighter like ssbooker said.

lol, funny argument.
I wonder what he actually believes then.
I think lawn tennis obtained more popularity
because it's a more convenient set up and doesn't require half a building to play on.
that way the common folk can have some fun.

ur full of shit. there's no way that u could actually believe that real tennis is better or more complex than "lawn" tennis.

I hate real tennis. It's far easier then lawn tennis and way more dull. I've played both (I started with lawn tennis) and real tennis is inferior in every way.

looks like squash.
i've played neither of them anyway but looks like fun :P

hmm, does everyshot have to go off a wall before hitting the ground??? it seems to make the game a lot slower than tennis.

It can look that way but the ball actually travels faster as the ball is heavy and hard and the rackets strung 4X as tight as lawn tennis. There are a lot of comparisons made with lawn tennis, but fact is its very different and you do need to play to realise how challenging it is to hit the ball & how tactically challenging it is.

What's with the tension-lacking net?!?!?! Makes the game look even more retarded.

Popular rumour has it that when Henry the VIII'th got overweight and older he had the net lowered in the middle and raised at the sides so that good players couldn't make him run so much and had to play cross-court. More likely however is that when tennis began in europe in the 1400's they just hung a net on whatever they could and having it parallel wasn't an issue. An ancient game - yes, retarded - no , just quirky !

Its essentially tennis inside a room with some odd features like the 45 degree wall ( tambour ) and windows around the court ( galleries ). You win certain points if you can hit the openings. Its a bit like Pfederer winning a point for hitting an umpire ! Also the ball is heavy and hard like a baseball with a soft cover and the heavy rackets strung approx 4 times as tight as lawn tennis so the ball flys like a rocket.
