  • Yes, funny. The Irish always bring smiles.

  • Great song, wonderful humour, I love it!! Andy :)

  • @cipospalmares Hi, 'cipospalmares'. :-)

    A "Sobell Cittern" is a 10-string instrument with the same body size and the same scale length as an 8-string "Sobell Octave Mandolin".

    What Andy plays in this clip is an 8-string instrument that Stefan calls a "long-scale Mandola", and which has a slightly smaller body than the 10-string Cittern or 8-string OM, as well as the shorter 20½ins scale length I mentioned in the earlier post below.

    I hope this helped. ;-)

    With kind regards;

    Patrick.

  • This is no longer "never recorded".

    He does a wonderful version on his new album "Abocurragh".

    Available through his website.

    Also,he doesn't seem to mind Idiot fans asking silly questions.

    He answered mine!.

  • @gatheringdusk

    That is a Sobell cittern.

  • Hello again, gatheringdusk :-) This instrument is a 20½ins long-scale Mandola made for Andy by Stefan Sobell in Northumberland, UK. It is tuned DAEA.

    With kind regards;

    Patrick.

  • What instrument is Andy playing here? Is it a Davy Stuart instrument?

  • What a cracker. Been there.

  • Correction - the name of the folk tune is: "Å kjøre vatten og kjøre ved" . Sorry I mixed the melodies. Cheers.

  • How funny! This tune: "Oslo" (which is the capital of Norway) is in fact a interpretation of a well known folk tune: Eg rodde meg ut på Seiagrunden... Nice and surprising!

    Andy's been to Norway quite a few times, and he knows a popluar artist of ours: Lillebjørn Nilsen, who performs his own version of folk tunes (even though he is most famous for his own songs/ballads) Check him out on Youtube as well!
