Reach for a star
- People say that, when one is healthy, one has lots of dreams. When you are ill, you have just one, the most important and really treasured. Health.
For many of the children who are the patients of the Pediatrics Unit of the Fundeni Hospital from Romania, this dream remains almost intangible. Just like when you were a child you wished that you could touch a star...
The country's biggest Pediatrics unit functions in the Fundeni Clinical Hospital and treats children who are diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma, children who undergo dialysis, talasemy or chronic hepatitis patients. Over 5,000 children are admitted annually and this hospital is the one which should cover the entire country. After every chemotherapy round the children's health worsens and they are more prone to infections.
In order to intervene promptly, the doctors must have the necessary logistics. An ultrasound would ensure a better functioning of the Pediatrics unit which treats these children. This piece of equipment is essential in diagnosing changes which occur in the liver, kidney or other important organs. If these changes are not discovered in time, lives are lost.
MAME Association comes to support these little children, launching the Touch a Star project.
The project's objective is to raise the necessary funds to purchase the so needed ultrasound equipment, indispensable for these children fighting for their lives. The approximate value of this equipment is of 45.000 Euro.
