@UTubekookdetector your right i assumed your references were old, I have found new references myself indicating you to be wright. but i think your are wright only about some of the methods of production. even if we disagree on the importance of ethanol i am glad we agree that it should not be subsidized by tax paying citizens that don't want it. I would like to see the government drop all help and just see what happens. I want to no if E85 is as good as i think or hear because of subsidies.
SWITCH: I assume you didn't know what date my references were from, you just ASSUMED they were old? The ethanol industry would die overnight without the subsidies and yes, I am consistent: I don't favor subsidies for "clean" coal, nuclear or anything else. It can and should survive on its own. Corn-based ethanol isn't as clean as advertised either, but I'll guarantee we'll keep subsidizing this nonsense for decades. Our gov't has its fingers in too many pies, subsidy programs are off the chart.
@UTubekookdetector look it is clear to me that ethanol isn't for everyone. but i personally haven't found an engine that i couldn't use it in. you are so worried about energy balance, which is a good thing. I can't give you just one energy balance. every process has differing efficiencies. in fact the way i want to make it might be less efficient than ever. I would like to run a still on methane made from cow manure, then use the manure for fertilizer. I don't care how much shit i use.
SWITH: Your stories are subjective. There are several stories that are not subjective, pertaining to what ethanol does to older motors that can't handle it. How can anyone take you seriously when you're using subjective stories? What year was the Pimental data from pertaining to the amount of energy needed to produce ethanol? Earlier you said, "your energy balance statements are ether old or exaggerated." Other studies have backed up his data as well.
@UTubekookdetector how can i take anyone serious that thinks you can do anything with a snap of a finger? I study the latest info on ethanol every day. look at my user name. ethanol may not be perfect but it isn't as bad as you make it out to be. and a 15% blend would run just fine in an 80s Chevy Malibu. I run a 30% blend in an old lawn mower for years now and 50% in my car for 55000 miles no problem at all. Hell a 30% is even in my 2007 jet ski. I have yet to find one thing i can't run 30% in.
I should also mention, more field corn (for livestock, not humans, I apologize for that error--it's still being consumed nonetheless) being planted displaces other crops & artificially inflates (due to the ethanol mandate) the demand for field corn. That means less corn for human consumption & other crops for human consumption. This also means some farmers will do less crop rotations, there's a reason farmers rotate beans & corn planting every other year.
SWITCH: "In my opinion your energy balance statements are ether old..." Which means you didn't even look at them. Nice try. They are all less than 5 years old. "if a person would raise the compression in their engine." I snapped my fingers, it didn't work, what next? What about an 80s Chevy Malibu, it won't handle 15% eth. What about the EPA assessment on ethanol-created hydrocarbons and ozone levels? Less corn for livestock means higher costs to feed them, which raises costs for the consumer.
This is another political baseball that keeps on getting batted around, year after year..The BS is like the Energizer bunny and Obamacare,it keeps on going and going. From all the reports I have seen, bottom line,Ethanol is not feasible. One reason, among many, it would be cost prohibitive to produce. Also it would raise the cost of corn,so it will cost us more to consume or feed to farm animals. Popcorn, cornbread, dressing,on the cob, creamed, whole kernel, etc etc etc etc
the corn used in ethanol was never going to be used for human consumption. it is field corn for livestock. the live stock still get it, they only use the starch. if a person would raise the compression in their engine to take advantage of Ethanol's 105 octane it could be a more efficient engine. In my opinion your energy balance statements are ether old or exaggerated. also having more oxygen in it does make it burn more complete. I have watch enough test burns of diesel, gas, kerosene& ethanol.
SWITCH: Glad to hear you're against energy subsidies. Make sure you write your elected officials about this as well. Good day.
