Ummm...anyone else there are more guitars then there are people? They're lip synching, or at least playing to a backing track. How disappointing.

@MrBCRMBST Definitely not lip synching but there probably is a backing track. I think I heard they had to use a backing track for the American Idiot tour, not sure why, it was only for this song they did it

@MrGreenDayLive Billie's not lip synching, but it sounds like the background vocals may be recorded. Either way I've lost some respect for them. There's no reason Billie couldn't have handled chords while Mike Dirnt handled the tremolo part and the fills. If the whole song isn't live, none of it is :(

@MrGreenDayLive Well this is definitely live! No lip syncing. The reason why there is the melody track at the back is because I doubt Billie has a guitar tech that can actually switch from a clean chorus verb tone to a full fledged distortion with boost. That's like stepping on 3 pedals at once and then activating 2 more! Part 1:07- 1:09 really proves he's singing. He goes a little off. Listen to '' till then''

I believe the reason it sound like it is because this is recorded from off the t.v. on NBC and could have gotten a little off sync. while recording

@mercybrkr yep you're right...plus you can tell he isn't lip synching because he screws the lyrics up...he says "my shallow's the only one that walks beside me" instead of "my shadow's" in first chorus
