The 13 footer leaves for Hawaii

After 10 months on the New Zealand olo hikoi and a couple of months lurking back in the olosurfer shop the 13 foot Future Primitive surfboard heads off to Randy Rarick's place on the North Shore of Oahu via Honolulu. It was a four hour drive to get her to the Air New Zealand Cargo office.

Once there the board will be surfed by all comers for the duration of the winter, hopefully in some big waves and some hollow ones at pipeline. Perhaps someone will win the Eddie Aikau memorial big wave contest on her.

Bonga Perkins is rumoured to have offered to ride the board for US$200, or was he offering to pay for the experience ?

I was really surprised to see that board shipping in a bag alone. I've only ever shipped my boards in a hard box, as most other surfers I know have had broken boards from shipping in soft bags. I'll say a little prayer for your board's safe journey.

Thanks Jason, soft bags have been good for us so far, it's a very tough board too so hopefully all will be well :)

She's all ready to go for the coming winter, and is with Garrett McNamara. Garrett had a couple of waves at small pipeline but lost the fin which had been craced in transit. A new fin has been installed which took 4 months to achieve due to the death threats received by the guy ( Bill ) who had custody of the board .

Roy, I was wondering what is the status with this board? Has anyone been able to try it out at the pipeline? I know there was some guff about it being tried out there at one time.
