Per the contracts / letters I have, pre-1979 Monster & Wild Mouses were traveling show rides brought in for special events. The only permanent installation documented was in Portland, OR, USA. These rides were owned by Robert Bollinger (a partner of Burrard Amusements which built Playland Park).
Comment re: Happyland moved to another location on PNE grounds is not correct. Happyland went out of business. I have the whistle that closed Happyland from 1934 thru 1957 then Playland to 1965.

@Pne444 but the corkscrew... isn't it a Vekoma corkscrew and it was a different ride for expo '86? the Scream Machine. it got moved and renamed "Ninja"?

the wild mouse was build 2 years after the coaster AND i remember the giant dipper i rode it once. it was playland time! and the sighn said GIANT DIPPER! come ride this 100 year old ride! but in history it was told after it was made it was torn down 27 years later even tho it operated when i went there and then the next year was torn down and 5 years later the wild mouse was to! they realy shouldent of removed wild mouse

@getchasumm The PNE had lost it\s 'beauty'by the early 90's and was in desperate need foor a major rebuild.Part of the initial land deal that keeps the PNE in tact today instead of Burns Bog was that it was to be returned to natural parkland, and a pubilc park. If it was still a concrete jungle, the Parks board would have taken it over and the PNE would have been moved. The bird sanctuary is very effective as many species have since returned to the park again. It's a park not a mall.

@getchasumm And you come across as a typically uninformed fuckhead, like many of the vendors who used to oeprate there and simply cannot afford to anymore. so they blame the fair for progression. P.S.Not a security guard, I was the security manager, year 'round. You are so personally wrapped up in this shite, I can't believe how you dwell on such ridiculous issues as a two week fair. It's pretty pathetic really, have fun discussing these myths alone. If you had a clue you'd have a debate.

@getchasumm Further, should add that the PNE had something wonderful, complete with a beautiful site, and have cut it apart to the point most people I mention the fair to are no longer interested. THAT aint opinion, its fact. Calgary, a flat dust bowl of a town, took nothing and made something out of it. It is an utter disgrace (and embarassment) that we let the PNE be reduced to what it is today. If the haters (back in mid 90's) of the fair had their way, there would be F-all left.

@ozmedia You sound like a real ass. Its funny how all the points I've raised you have quick, pat answers for. I have talked to many longtime vendors, and they feel the same way about most, if not all my gripes. THEY are the ones that see the good, the bad and the unnecessary, regarding the changes that occurr on the grounds. "Start the perfect fair"? Dont make me howl. We HAD a near-perfect fair, and it has been slowly destroyed, piece by piece. THAT, my security-guard friend, is the tragedy
1 more thing, the corkscrew was built in 1994 how can it be in the footage of 1976?
