Sly is one of those rare musicians like Charlie "Bird" Parker, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis who create a genre within themselves. Before them that certain sound that did. Nobody before them did it. True innovators way ahead of their time. Hearing "brave and strong" again and it just dawned on me. This was George Clintons launch pad for Parliaments " Chocalate City". George tightened it(the funk) up bit. But listen to the 2 songs and you'll definately hear the similarities.
