Help is on the way for more than 50 organizations fighting poverty in New York City, thanks to Recovery Act funding that is supporting nearly 200 AmeriCorps VISTA members who will engage New Yorkers in volunteer efforts to battle poverty in the nation's most populous city. The Recovery VISTAs began their year of service on July 30th in the NYC Civic Corps after being sworn in by Corporation for National and Community Service Acting CEO Nicola Goren and New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg at a ceremony at New York's City Hall.
