Dassault Mirage IV

The Dassault Mirage IV is a French jet-propelled supersonic strategic bomber and reconnaissance aircraft.
In 1996, Mirage IV strategic bombing was transferred to the Mirage 2000N from Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron. In 2005 remaining Mirage IV reconnaissance aircraft were retired and reconnaissance mission were transferred Mirage F1CR squadrons.

@RemoRa2826 LOL. The Mirage IV was designed in the 50's for strategic bombing. When the french finally mastered long-range and intercontinental missiles, the remaining Mirage IV's were converted for high-speed, high- alititude reconnaissance missions. Today, reco missions are performed by UAV's and satellites and this cool bird has been decomissioned.

J ai eu la chance de le voir évoluer pendant un an(service militaire à Cazaux dans les Landes en 1979 )Travaillant à la soute à munitions ,celle ci était trés prés de la piste .J étais fasciné par sa taille ,sa puissance et sa ligne . J étais vraiment en admiration pour ce bel oiseau .....

@laurendiBTZ Le reve... Je compte rentrer dans l'AA l'année prochaine. Le mirage IV est fantastique et je n'aurai hélas jamais la chance de le voir voler...

La maintenance dessus devait être passionnante non ?

Hmm. The starfighter was an interceptor, this is a strategic bomber. If I had to find an equivalence it would be more like the B-58 Hustler or the B-1B Lancer (but with a lower payload than the Lancer)

Well, depends on which enemy you attack. Anyway, I think it was able to do inflight refuelling. Anyway, it was able to engage enemies within a radius of 3500 km. If a Miarge 2000 took of from Orange Air Base, he could have wiped out Moskau, (in fact, 500 kilometers after Moskau), every african state directly under the Sahara, or Iceland and return to its base. But he couldn't attack the USA (1000km too far, but they were no enemies right?)

Dassault Mirage IVA, A for Atomic, was a strategic bomber designed for carrying a 90 kt (boosted?) fission bomb as an semi-external. The range of the aircraft was insuffisant to return to its base. The pilot must eject in enemy country.
