EU recognition for Lukashenko regime

In October 2008, the EU Council lifted the sanctions for Lukshenka and 40 officials, which were considered responsible for election fraud in Belarus in 2006. (For details please search for EU Council 2008/844/CFSP)

Without any regard to the resolution of the European Parliament on 07.01.2009, the EU Council - e.g. all governments of the European Member States - decided to include the illegitimate Lukashenka regime into the Eastern Partnership, with was launched at an EU Summit in Prage on May 2009.

In the run-up of the Eastern Partnership, representatives of the EU were working on the diplomatic recognition of A. Lukashenko. Javier Solana visited Minsk in February 2009 and Karel Schwarzenberg did the same on behalf the Czech EU Presidency in April 2009.

This video records this political process and raises the voice of EU citizens on behalf of Belarusian citizens, which are repressed and persecuted by the regime in Belarus. The video message adresses José Manuel Durao Barroso, President of the EU Commission, who bears responsibility for the EU initiative 'Eastern Partnership'. The message also adresses independent defenders of human rights and European Values. BEL AIR | February 2009

It is really, really sad that you can have hardly any support in Europe. This is mainly for European "political correctness" towards Russia and I dunno how to express it, maybe doing nothing, pretending that's everything ok. Fortunately some people in Poland see it, but it's still not enough.

Solana and Ferrero-Waldner are EU-history in October 09 ... the EaP will fail, as each agreement with the Lukashenka-regime was doomed to fail so far - and Mr. Rigoni (Council of Europe) left a funny Infopoint in Minsk, but did not keep his promises ... so don't wait on big politics for to change the situation.

Better invite all your friends from abroad to spend their holidays in Belarus - and they will start to fight for it - and tell others to do the same !!

The EU council is the same pack of criminals as everywhere. The money society has pushed the criminals in top politics. They don't look criminal. But they are. What counts is not "political correctness". What counts is money. The personal freedom has always been the biggest threat for those who consider the society being a vehicle to fulfill their personal demands.
