Grumpy Jii-san hates an ugly Doll

Grumpy Jii-san's been watching cartoons for way too long. I can't recall when Halloween became a month-long affair, with decorations going up weeks in advance. But, who am I to stop the horror? Let's look at an early CG horror.

This time, the narration was recorded on an aborted hike along the Bear Jaw trail up Mt. Agazzi, suring this summer flight to Arizona's cooler high country.

The way you described it, this anime reminds me of the movie "A.I. Artificial Intelligence."

Both are variations on the "Pinocchio" story, though this is darker, uglier, and slower (if that's possible.)

When you mentioned about sap popping, I was like "So that was the sound that we kept hearing while you were talking about this anime" because when you were reviewing this, I heard popping sounds constantly.

Nah, I wasn't blithely sitting next to a potential forest fire while making this recording. The rapid "clicking" sound, e.g. at 5:35, is an insect who dropped in to offer an opinion. Any individual pops are probably me fidgeting my feet over a dry leaf or twig. Wind, bugs, & birds (and airplanes flying overhead) come with recording outside. (Last week I ran into bear on Mt Wrightson. Sadly, I was too slow to grab a picture.)

Well, if I spent ALL my time hiking, I wouldn't have any time to watch anime. But retirement does give you more free time for your hobbies and other idle pursuits.

Slower then AI...oh dear that means this is a show to avoid. I really despised AI for a number of reasons, the pacing being one of them. Rememebr that part when the kid robot was frozen for a thousands years? yeah that sounds faster paced and more exiting then watching the film :P . Kinda sad this seems like a wash though, because Konaka is my dude, as far as screenwriters go. He's quite talented.

Ah, I bumped into this show in a Borders once. The fact that it was a CGI tentacle-rape anime turned me off quite fast...

That said, the clips look interesting. The stilted animation effect could be of some use if properly utilized in short doses, I think...
