**** JURY FINDS WISCONSIN MOTHER GUILTY IN PRAYER DEATH **** A jury Friday found a central Wisconsin woman guilty of killing her 11 year old daughter by praying for her to heal instead of rushing her to the doctor.
A Marathon County jury deliberated about four hours before convicting Leilani Neumann, 41, of rural Weston, of second degree reckless homicide. No sentencing date was set. Neumann remains free on bond.
"We have another shot on appeal," defense lawyer Gene Linehan said. "obviously, there will be an appeal."
Nuemann's daughter, Madeline died of untreated diabetes March 23rd, 2008, surrounded by people praying for her. When she suddenly stopped breathing, her parents' business and Bible study partners finally called 911.
Prosecuters contend a reasonable parent would have known something was gravely wrong with Madeline and her mother recklessly killed her by ignoring obvious symptoms of how gravely ii she was. "Religious extremism can be dangerous," Marathon County District Attorney Jill Falstad said. "in this case it was fatal."
Linehan countered, saying Neumann didn't realize her daughter was so ill and did all she could do to help, in line with the family's belief in faith healing. He said Neumann was a devout Christian who prays about everything and took good care of her four children. "Religious extremism is a Muslim terrorist," Linehan said. "They are saying these parents are so far off the scale that they murdered their child. The woman did everything she could to help her. That is the injustice in this case."

  • Prayer is a lot more powerful than the hospitals I mean the mom could have taken her to a hospital and then prayed for her but can a doctor make the blind see or the deaf hear? No can Jesus yes

  • @annan3238 Then why didn't jesus save this girl? jesus did nothing. Now the girl is gone. Lost because of a screwed up belief system that does nothing at all.

  • Hey, If anyone knows the parents names i would really like to know.

I am interested in looking into this case further, Thanks.

  • @everyonewantsmedead The mother's name is Leilani Neumann. I'm not sure of the father's name. It's been covered by the AP so I'm sure you'll find plenty of info.

  • I love how you say 'this is right here in Wisconsin this is not some foreign country'. What, you think similar cases have not occured before in America? How many times should Christian extremists' reckless behaviour should happen before you people realize that terrorism isn't bound to a certain country, religion or society.

  • @Ndn1011 Woah, woah, woah. I go into detail about that later on after reading the lawyer's quote. I'm well aware that this case is not unique to America. It IS, however, unique to my area.

  • such religious retards---not to mention that we're the "lost" sheep if we don't agree with their "righteous" standards ehh? "righteous" ... yeah, right.

  • I bet the parents sure don't pray for money - they go out and work for it. Yet.....

  • The parents, Dale and Leilani Neumann, were ordered to spend 30 days in jail each year for the next six years and were placed on 10 years’ probation. Mr. Neumann, 47, and Ms. Neumann, 41, who live in Weston, in central Wisconsin, had been convicted of second-degree reckless homicide in August.

  • I saw somebody say that Jesus can make the blind see and the deaf hear, and doctors can't. I lol'd.

  • You rock, it took some real balls to get up their and say that.

  • I belive in GOD and Jesus and what was tought but people tend to twist words around to fit what they want it to mean . Not one place in the bible does it say to never bring your self or any one to doctor . You get sick go to a hospital and pray to GOD for things to get better . We are given free will we are not slave who are told what to do , we are asked by GOD to behave in a certin way we are never forced to do any thing we dont want to do .

  • @aretz28 I hear your anger as it rages me too, but what if Jesus allowed it to happen, because he knew what her future would be, after much years of hate, maybe she would do the same to her future child etc. What I mean is, she wasn't saved from death in the flesh, but what if she is in Heaven, saved for eternity. God bless and *peace

  • @annan3238 As a child, did you ever play the game where you whisper a statement to another child...and when it reaches the 20th person it is completely different? This would appear to be a similar scenario to the Bible's creation 2,000 years ago. The stories were told verbally for decades...when innumerable exaggerations were surely included...then written down and translated several times....
