  • Excellent full edition of Chain Letters with David Spikey from 1997 collinplace ah back in the days when game shows used to occupy the 9:25 am slot until the next year.

When did the studio recording of this edition of Chain Letters that you appeared on Collinplace take place?

  • @Classictv90s

Hi. I can't remember the exact date but it was sometime in February 1997.

  • Chain Letters was recorded in studio 5 at former Tyne Tees Television City Road studios in Newcastle Upon-Tyne

Dave did say on his website that he was promised a second series of Chain Letters but sadly never it happened because ITV were clearing away the game shows at 9:25 am so they could do the chat and talk shows in order to be in competition with the BBC.

  • Dave Spikey was about 45 years old when he started hosting Chain Letters back in 1997. He turned 60 last month.

  • @collinplace Thanks, don't worry if you couldn't remember the date as long as you enjoyed your time as a contestant on Chain Letters that's the main thing.

  • This guy was crap at the jokes for the beggining of the show

  • I think Dave Spikey was hopeless. I just saw an edition on Challenge a few moments ago and during the Add A Letter round, he actually questioned whether a contestant would be allowed to declare 'astray' and 'alike' as valid words. I can understand that the choice of host for a show such as this may basically be down to whoever is available at the time, but surely it would be expected that they'd have a good grasp of English.

  • thanks for upload. i have never seen this show just recently read about it on wikipedia apparantly it was filmed in newcastle
