Here's my entry! I just found out about this contest a few days ago, and I was rushing to meet the Decemeber 15 deadline (and then I found out the deadline had been extended). Anyway, I thought I'd do something a little different with it, so I decided to learn the keyboard part along with the bass part. I always thought tapping was a forte of mine, and I saw no reason not to exploit that here.

I've recorded straight into my sound card, only passing through a little Korg processor along the way. It's all one take, and it's all the first take! I filmed the video with my Canon A620 as I was recording the part, then synced up the video with the audio in Windows MovieMaker.

My instrument is an all-maple Spector Euro 5 Neck-Thru with two EMG DC-40s. Enjoy it! And thanks goes out to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra for all the great music!

Thanks!

Many of you have asked for a transcription of this, so I finally did one.

And a pdf document can be downloaded here:

Check out my brother's guitar video too!

  • I have a very similar Spector NS5CRFM. How the heck do you get that tone? Awesome playing you've got here.

  • @jarhead4214 Thanks for the kind words!

I think here I was using an old Korg AX1B, with compression and a bit of reverb, and straight from there into my soundcard. I now use a PODPro, which allows a bit more room for customization.

On my bass, I usually roll back my balance a touch to the bridge (but barely) for some clarity, and keep the EQ flat. And that's it! Bear in mind that I have one of the older model Euro's, so it's not the same preamp as they use today.

  • you rule!!

since you're so good at playing bass and you own one like mine, and have an owesome tone taste, what amp do you recomend

    sry for bothering ;)

and good luck with your music career!

  • I've been using Carvin R1000 for about 6 years (I love it), but for recording and videos and such I usually use a Line 6 Pod Pro.

  • wow what kinda bass is that

  • what version of youtube are you using that doesn't show the video descriptions?

  • Your trainscription link is broken, now that you got the video back up again.

  • Uowwwww...fucking amazing

  • @jmatthews13 I have an older euro as well, somewhere within 90-92. NS5CRFM. :p Yeah i've got a POD GX and I just never get any tone out of that thing, ever. I have to run out of my amp into the input if I want a tone and a good recording.
