It seems some people have been asking about or "bagging" the harmonist effect. I though I'd record a quick video of what it sounds like.
Im using the BOSS ME 50 which has a diatonic harmony effect, which means, you select the interval from -8 to +8 and the key. In this case, we are in E minor (G Major). I recorded the effect on the rhythm guitar to show you can harmonize rhythm guitar if you control the effect level.

Im using a 3rd interval which is very common. Each interval sounds different, so you have to experiment to find the right fit for you.

The major problem the BOSS ME-50 has is that the harmonist is mono. ie: there is no panning of the effect. I would have loved a mon/stereo button on the modulation effect, but im sure the ME-70 has it

Anyway, hope you enjoy and get something out of this video.

  • What is a name on this song?

  • @PlaystationSonyMan Its nothing. Just me stuffing around.

  • ur playing is good but i hate the harmonist on the boss me 50 its sounds so much better and less computerized on the boss me 70 but i can still tell you're a great player keep it up bro! i have this pedal i run it through for just tone mainly

  • @A7XFIendx6661 Yea, I was thinking that too. I never use it other than for octaves, and even then it doesn't sound quite clean enough. Ive never liked harmonists. I think there are so many other effects that sound more interesting

  • Nice playing

can u tell me wat song ur playing?

  • @LongingMelody Thanks :-) Um, its just me stuffing about. Ii was just written for this video after I read some people criticizing the harmonizer. It was just a demo to show that if you tuned correctly, selected the right key, you could get a decent sound. But, im not a fan of harmonized guitar, so I rarely use it.

  • pls can you tell me how to set distorsion for metal on me-50 to sound good, i always hear so much noise, like shhh xD please :) tnx

  • Thanks for the video explanation, but I'd be grateful if you could clarify something. When i set the key on Boss ME-50 is it major? I mean when i want to play something in a minor scale I have to use the relative scale? Oh, and does the dot stand for sharp or flat?

  • The Boss PS6 Harmonist sounds a lot less Tin like, it has much better tracking and it lost that digital sound. It's like 95% there to getting that maiden diatonic 3rds sound that many pedals just failed to emulate for so long.

  • Fantastic tones ...you have single handed convinced me to buy a Boss Me50
