TEDxSFED - George Watsky

George Watsky is a writer and performer from San Francisco now based in Los Angeles. A veteran of the spoken word community and a rising rapper who has found a new following online, George was featured on Season 6 of Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry on HBO. He was the 2006 Youth Speaks Grand Slam Poetry Champion, 2006 Brave New Voices International Poetry Slam Champion, and performed in a record six consecutive Youth Speaks Grand Slam Finals. In 2009 George was one of three poets who performed live on FOX at the NAACP Image Awards in honor of Russell Simmons' lifetime achievement award, and in 2010 he performed live as a guest on the Ellen Degeneres Show. He has also been profiled on the Carson Daily Show, in Billboard Magazine and on CBS News. George's self-released debut, Watsky, reached as high as #7 on the iTunes Hip Hop albums chart.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

Gotta love George. If you liked this, I suggest trying Rives' TED Talks and the amazing Sarah Kay's presentation for TED. One word of caution though...Sarah's talk might cause your eyes to get all watery. :)
