Me trying out some old film look stuff in final cut. SEE HERE FOR HOW I DID IT

1. adjusted gamma and brightness with image control-levels

2.Dragged saturation down to a little bit more than halfway with 3 way color corrector

3. added bad film filter under styilize, with following settings:
Focus amount: 52
Focus variance: 29
Brightness amount: 1
brightness variance: 1.2
saturate amount: -37
saturate variance: 5
scratches: 2.73
hairs: 10
dust: 66
jitter amount:.05
jitter variance:.03
grain:.42
frequency: 3
ranomd seed: 10
mix: 31

4. add a defocus by going to effects-video filters-blur-defocus
i used the following settings:
amount: 12
gain: 3.38
shape:circle
sides: 3
rotation: 0
AR: 1
no crop
mix: 100

4.export with final cut conversion, then click options-filter-special effects-film noise and turn scratch density to 0, hair density to 47 and hair length to 48, and turn film fading off. save and then go back and repeat this step, but change scratch density to 6.

5. upload both files into a new project and place the video with scratches onto track v2 and turn the opacity down to 20%.

6. export it as quicktime conversion. MAKE SURE YOU GO TO OPTIONS-FILTER- SPECIAL EFFECTS AND TURN OFF ALL SPECIAL EFFECTS or your scratches will look bad as hell.

  • That looks very good, but how did you get the border to fade to black? I think that's so important for the aged film look.

  • @richardgorrill sorry it took me so long, but i added a vignette if i remember correctly, when i made this i had final cut for about 2 weeks so its hard for me to remember, but looking at it now i am pretty sure it is just the vignette filter

  • where did you get the bad film effect

  • @xoHannahxo33 it should be under filters> stylize on fcp7. if you're using final cut pro x, i take pity on you.

  • as beam achieved this effect in Final Cut Pro?? you can pass that information to me please, I'd be grateful.

  • @elmexcine ? everything i did is just in the description.

  • @Synnehaga Everyday - Carly Comando

  • I think it looks more like someone got new footage and ran it through some "MAKE YOUR STUFF LOOK OLD!" filter. Close, but not legit enough for me.

  • thanks! a guy in my vid 101 class premieres movies like this and htey come off so painfully pretentious. what a wanker

  • What is the name of the song?? :)

  • good stuff right here

  • good stuff :) you can also get a similar look in motion
