Mutesa II, aka "King Freddie" was the King of Buganda at the end of the British colonial period. After securing independence he became the first President of Uganda of which his kingdom was the largest state. In 1969 he was overthrown by his corrupt Prime Minister Obote and his (then) ally General Idi Amin. He escaped the palace and spent the rest of his life in exile in Britain.
