Documentary

In the summer of 2005, Sara Nuytemans and Jeroen Nooter drove a truck, fueled entirely by vegetable oil, from The Hague in The Netherlands to Ulaan Bataar, Mongolia. During the three month, 12,000 km trip they passed through Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, and Kazakhstan. Today, the idea of using vegetable oil as fuel seems overshadowed by the projects of big oil, which are designed to create an image of environmental concern. But still, modern society does not use vegetable oil as fuel appropriately, in life-cycle terms, due to high energy consumption and a dearth of farmland. However, vegetable oil does present an opportunity in low-tech Mongolia, with its low energy consumption and vast open spaces.
