Created using "The Movies".

A gifted musician discovers the notes and melodies to open portals into the infinite dimensions. But what crawling chaos lies on the other side?

This is my third film based on the works of Howard Philips Lovecraft - spurred into action by the impending HPL Film Festival competition. I was REALLY wanting to get a voice over finally for this one, but no time! Competition closes next Monday and I'm away to London for the weekend to see the Kings of Leon! Although I did manage to record a horrendous scream...

I changed a wee bit of the story leading up to the finale (don't want to spoil it by explaining too much). But sticking too closely to the text just lost a bit of impact. I don't think I changed the spirit of it. Hopefuly HPL fans will forgive me and no-one else will notice anyway!

The "dated" look - scratches, grain etc - was achieved using Augie64's Filtermod (from themovies.filefront.com). Custom overlays and backdrops are all made by myself (I was in Paris recently which inspired me to choose to do this story), except for the couple of overlays in 1900s Paris which are copyright free pictures from Wikisource. The b&w overlays that I made myself were touched up in photoshot to give an aged photo look. The Rue d'Auseil was a photo I took in Montmartre (practically the only street I could find without swarms of tourists or bumper to bumper cars!).

Except where the standard Movies music is used, I composed the music myself in Magix Music Maker... hopefully it sounds suitably otherworldly (I hope so).

  • For a lovecraft fan which i am this was actually pretty good, This type of SIMS looking animation is actually a pretty good medium for adapting Lovecrafts stories but Its a pity you could not show some of the starnge creatures our protagonist saw from Zanns window

  • Fantastic, even given the lack of emotion due to The Movies.

  • @MrWilum

that's weird i took it to be Paris too

  • well played. That was enjoyable, thanks

  • @JamesWyndorf It reminds me of Thomas Mann's Doctor Faustus, although I think Lovecraft may have written this one first.

Sorry, I admire Lovecraft and all, but he doesn't even hold a candle to Thomas Mann.

Mann's descriptions of the music of hell are breathtaking.

  • @TEARFROST It's one of the best. Plus, nary a racist remark in the whole story!

  • Pretty good given your medium there.

Although, with Tru'nembra, you're competing with The Shunned House, which made him (it?) sound perfect and you could... see it... however they managed to do that.

I like that you did try to put something out the window, but probably just pitch black would have worked better than a blue vortex. Also, I'm pretty sure Erich was still playing after Tru'nembra killed him.

Also, BEST OUTER GOD EVER! Am I right, folks?

  • What's the music that sounds when Eric Zann plays at the night in 2:06?

or is it your own mix?

  • Excellent job

  • make one for "the transition of Juan Romero" good job btw!

  • I've always assumed the city to be Paris, but the city is (as far as I know) never named in HPL's tale. I wonder if he mentions it in his correspondence, or if it is all meant to be some kind of nameless dream? I keep coming back to this video -- it's so awesome! The music and effects sound great on headphone.

  • Actualy the city is unknown. But it is still a +5
