One of the two best opening vampire staking scenes in movie history, along with Blood Of the Vampire. This one was from Hammer Film studio in England. It was the last of the first era of their great vampire classics. Their films continued til the mid-70s.
It's available on DVD so this should help promote it.

  • I felt really sorry for the vampire :0(

  • now thats how a vamp movie should be

  • @MStrat1106 Well said!

  • One of the few Hammer Films I have not seen in its entireity. This was on network TV in the mid-60s, but my folks wouldn't let me watch it. The Hammer Films were 20X better than anything since. The Universal films were good, but I preferred these. Curse of the Werewolf and The Gorgon were pretty intense. And Night Creatures still ranks up there for me...probably because it was one of the first Hammer films I ever watched.

  • holy crap, i ran across this movie on TV years and years ago. i watched the whole movie, and absolutely loved it. i remember watching this part, and thought WHOA holy crap, hell of a way to start the movie! i've been trying for so long to remember the name of this movie, i have to see if i can get a copy of it.

  • No sparkly vamps here.

  • A classic moment, because it turns the traditions of Christian burial upside down; the gravedigger's spade is usually used to cast the first clod of earth, so a loved one may release the memory of the dead. Here, the vampire's drunken father uses it destroys his undead daughter, a beautiful irony reflecting the unnatural state of vampirism. Wow--

  • That staking...followed by that fabulous piano-pounding theme....made this film so memorable for me.

  • The scream at 3:08 is the best part. When night falls, someone won't be getting up outta that casket after that!

  • I love the prolonged delay from 3:10 until 3:21 when the woman *FINALLY* screams. It's like, wouldn't the supposedly dead body screaming and blood oozing out of the casket cause you to react instantly? Gotta love these old classics! LOL
