  • I take it you like the book, that's cool, I wouldn't mind reading it one day. However, you're way off base in terms of Snow Crash inventing online gaming. Not heard of MUDs then?

  • @blahdelablah Way to go on not listening.

  • @blowshimselfupdude

Way to go on not wanting to admit you were wrong.

  • @blahdelablah You clearly didn't listen to a thing I said so why bother.

  • WOW! You are so misinformed. First of all the term avatar was not invented by this book it's a hindu term which basically means incarnation. Second of all online gaming did NOT come from this book there were text based online games way before this book came out. Check your facts before your next review dude!

  • Try LISTENING! I didn't say it invented the word. It was the first to use to word as a representative when your on the computer. The book IS the reason when you go anywhere your icon is called your avatar.

I'm not talking about that. This book WAS very influencial on the 3d world mmo games. Numerous game designers have said so.

  • Data. It's data. Wait? Why am I saying this? You've probably looked it up right after this review, and this is... two years old...

  • BTW, what I called the Quicksilver trilogy is actually called The Baroque Cycle.

  • Enjoyed your review. I've read several Stephenson novels and I love them all. Two of my favorites are actually not cyberpunk or even science fiction, but I can't imagine any SF fan not getting into them: The Quicksilver trilogy (a swashbuckling romp through the 1700s) and The Cryptonomicon (about cryptography in modern times and in WWII). There are a lot of pages to get through, especially with the trilogy, but I could hardly put them down. They are well researched, informative and very funny.

  • great book, but i prefer William Gibson stories much more. More my taste than Stephenson, but still a great book.

Monalisa Overdrive, Virtual Light, All tommorows parties, and Pattern Rocognition are among my favorite of all books. Actually they are my fave books. Check out Stephensons work though, definitely worth the time to track the books down. They can be somewhat difficult to find depending on where you live. Same with the Gibson novels. Ordering online however solves that problem neatly.

  • snowcrash my fav

  • I have read Diamond Age by Stephenson and it was really good. Your review is making me want to read Snow Crash.

Starting at 3:05, you say "Basically online gaming came from this book, because everyone else used cyberspace more as like a...it wasn't the same, this basically treats cyberspace as like a giant MMO RPG, it was never really used like that before, it was always more of like a, I don't know, something else". See, I do listen. If you knew your gaming history you'd know that was false, go look up Island of Kesmai for example. Can you see what I mean now?
