Part of a eight part series documentary on the Martial Arts of south and south east Asia, originally broadcast on the BBC in the early 1980s. This episode follows the very old, yet ever developing, Philippino martial art, Eskrima. It has developed, largely, due to the use of knives in the Philippines and teaches one how to defend against and use knives or small blades. Part 4 of 4 parts.

  • actually it is applicable.. u need to research more on the art... and it does stand a chance.. esp eskrido.. =D

  • Why is it that its only Doce Pares? There are other eskrima styles that are also good and perhaps better. And also other master that were as good as Cacoy. Like for say Anciong Bacon, Timoteo Maranga, Alberto Dacayana SR, Ondo Caburnay. Other styles that are as prominent as Doce Pares is Balintawak, Lapunti, Mig-Sune-Do.

  • That sword play is intense.

  • Beautiful, thank you for sharing. I'm new to arnis, and hadn't yet encountered the idea of a curved strike. I do find the idea tremendously intriguing.

  • Because Explorer Ferdinand Magellan Simple Underestimate the

    Filipino Martial Art

    "KALI" ,"Eskrima" or "Arnis"

He died in the Battle of Mactan

  • 0:46 she walks really sexy...

  • Estrada called it arnis instead of esc/krima :3

  • I bet they had sore fingers after that!

  • 4:29 is wrong. Magellan was killed simply because he was outnumbered, didn't know the terrain and his men were exhausted.

Of course Lapu-Lapu's troop's strength should't be underestimated, by no means, but solely basing it on that fact is patriotic BS. This is the problem I often find with Filipinos, some patriotic BS that has no connection whatsoever to reality.

  • no! i will never forget this great grandmasters! mabuhay ang pilipinas! mabuhay ang mga escrimador!

  • @tsipymusic your wrong. 12 grandemasters of escrima made a new style called doce pares, the one who made modern escrima is remy amador presas
