Why the fuck do they call it overdraft PROTECTION if they ALLOW you to overdraft and then hit you with tons of fees? How the fuck is that protection if they ALLOW you to spend more than you have and then make a profit off of your mistake? PROTECTION would be if they prevented the transaction from going through so you didn't spend more than you have. They ought to call that shit "overdraft penalities" or "overdraft ass-raping."

I am a former Bank of America employee. Bank of America 'legally' is correct to charge you the fees because that is how there system is designed. However, it is completely unjust. When this system started recently, I asked my market manager about it and in his words 'it is a great money making tool'.
I am sorry for your lost money. Change your bank.

@TheSmithArmyWife I am sure you have done something about this since then, but I was in the Army, I had my loans and savings with Navy Federal, and I had my banking and insurance through USAA. Bank of America specializes in fees. I had $4k in my bank one night, deposited that day, next morning -$700, they said it was a "network error of overdraft fees, and we will resolve the problem, give us 3-5 business days and your money will be back in there" that is BS!

None of the Dutch banks (netherlands) has overdraft FEES- Fines ...
They will charge 12% interest on the money you owe them ... standing in the Red!
(roodstaan)
Did know what to think when I heard all this ...
This drives people only into MORE problems they don´t need!!!

Bank of America will be bankrupt by the end of the month…get your cash out quick.
They are trying to stop people from withdrawing already.

May I suggest that you use a check register and record every transaction that way you can keep a running balance because sometimes It takes merchants several days to process that transaction I know because I work for a major retailer so when you use your debit card or write a check record it in your check register right at that moment and then you can tell what you have left even though it it may take whoever you made the purchases from a while to process the transactions.

you ask me. i think this is just a big scam on US. i never going use a bank ever again. they can bite me...
-
UK banks do the same thing - I made 2 store purchases on my debit card for about 5 pounds each - I was unaware that i was overdrawn and ended up payng about 100 pounds fees on those transactions - the moral - be careful!

@blackkhakis You really need to shut the fuck up. You're probably one of those over-privileged rich white fuckers whose mommy and daddy helped put you through college and become a "success" in the world. Guess what you condescending, mean-spirited piece of shit; people make mistakes. Is it really right that banks should be able to take advantage of people and put them in a severe financial bind just because they made a simple mistake? After you die and you're judged by god, enjoy hell!

Umm, if I recall, never in history did banks automatically opt people the fuck into overdraft protection before there were debit cards. If you wrote a check that you couldn't cover back then, IT BOUNCED. Therefore, if you make a purchase with a debit card that you can't cover, THE TRANSACTION SHOULD BE CANCELLED. Overdraft "protection" is a fucking scam and Bank of America is an unethical company, period. You should be ashamed of yourself for doing business with them.
also something else they wont tell you is "overdraft protection" will charge you 25$ everytime they transfer money from the savings to checking. therefore just another hidden overdraft fee. dont let banks take advantage of you like this.. its completely ridiculous. threaten to take them to small claims court...that is what ron paul recommends and theres another video on youtube of someone who did that and it works.

I think I may call them back and start up another nonsense discussion questioning their so called "receipts" and ask about their "overdraft protection" fee you mentioned. I'll be sure to post that video as well!

by receipts I assume you mean "sales draft" and by labeling it "so called" I assume you know jack shit about what happens between a merchant and bank. At the end of the day you spent more money than you had and got overdraft fees. I needed to get in here and voice this on a one sided post like this so you people relize not all consumers think like you and seek to blame others.

yes, you're right, my husband DID end up spending more money than there was in the bank account, but like I stated in my video, I'm aware of it. I'm aware of "sales drafts", and what people realize, is that they are being screwed over, just like I was. This video isn't about some bogus, "so called" receipts, it's about their processing that they benefit from. We made one transaction that somehow put us $175 in the red? Does that REALLY make sense to you or sound fair??

honey go to a credit union i had the same problem and finally switched and i cant tell you the world of difference plus you get more interest and no ridiculous overdraft fees.
credit unions are non profit and they arent there to make bonuses off of every overdraft fee they give you.

With my husband being in the military, and us moving overseas, we plan to start an account with Navy Federal Credit Union. We were also looking into USAA.
