Ubuntu 8.04.1 on Acer Aspire One.

I replaced the AspireOne Linpus Lite as I cannot find the network sharing and other things. Though I must admit that Linpus Lite has the upperhand in terms of loading time, 15 secs vs. 40+ secs. But in terms of features, i'd go for ubuntu.

UPDATE: 071808
Before you jump on installing the ubuntu or ubuntu netbook remix, here are the flaws:
1. no mic drivers
2. suspend mode not working
3. default ubuntu wifi driver don't work. you need to use madwifi drivers, which is not really easy to install for casual pc users.
4. 40+ sec boot-up time

Anyway, after considering all of these flaws against the loading time of Linpus, which you can now enable advance settings(or the actual settings) via a simple option, i reverted to the original Acer linpus lite.

I have tested an XP on Aspire One too. here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DD7updNzKgQ

  • your video is rather old, have the problems been fixed as far as functionality?

  • almost all of the problems from 8.04 are fixed by installing the Intrepid Ibex release of Ubuntu (8.10) including the audio and wifi issues.

  • does it run smoothy with ubuntu installed

  • yes it does compared to XP. (A110 version)

  • @eleven2181 it can have slight problems at time tho

  • Dose anyone knows if it will work on HP Pavillion ZE3751us?

  • its ubuntu it will auto detect 90% rest can be found in forums.

  • ANYONE: How do you install the drivers?

  • i have installes in my netbook the desktop edition

  • this isnt's the netbook remix, this is an other version of ubuntu

  • Ubuntu will work on a netbook, The remix UI is designed for ease of use when dealing with small screens. Depending on the graphics chipset on the netbook it may or may not run compiz. Trying to run compiz on a net book is a bit silly as it already has limited resources. Even if you can run it your just robbing yourself of valuable resources that could be used elsewhere. If you want full compiz and eye candy you shouldn't even consider a netbook, that is not the purpose.

  • you can. a friend of mine have msi wind with ubuntu 9.4 (not netbook edition) with compiz and other stuff. i use archlinux with compiz in my asus eee pc 1000

  • go on the ubuntu website they have tutorials on there
