Porsche offers its customers the option of a brake system which has already stood up to the most stringent tests in motor racing: the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB). The ceramic brake discs are not only much harder than cast iron, they are also more resistant to heat. The crucial advantage of the ceramic brake system is the extremely low weight of the brake discs. The result: better performance, less consumption, reduced unsprung weight and fewer rotating masses. This results in improved grip and enhanced driving and tyre comfort, particularly on uneven roads. http://www.porsche.com/dna/
however I have no idea if the added cost of the PCCB option is reasonable. I can add this afterwards for about $20k and then need brake service at nearly $8000 for pads every six months. If I pick up a small stone then my pads will shatter like glass. My regular S-type brakes ( red calipers ) seem more than reasonable for the task at hand and I have to wonder if PCCB is worth the maintenance hassle. However, having said all that, I think a Carrera GTS next sping may get them. Not decided yet.
