During a news conference in Tehran with visiting Turkish delegation, Iran's Foreign Minister says the Islamic Republic can weather the storm of the most recent international sanctions. Here's more.

Iran and Turkey sought on Thursday to ease tensions over a NATO missile shield and the Arab uprisings.

On a state visit to Tehran, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu assured his counterpart, Ali Akbar Salehi, that Ankara would never allow an attack on Iran from its territory.

Davutoglu's 2-day trip to Iran came after a year in which Turkey and Iran fell out over the NATO missile system.

Concerned that the NATO system could neutralize Iran's own defenses in the event of an attack by Israel, some Iranian politicians even suggested bombing the installations such as a NATO missile early warning system set up on Turkish soil.

Salehi reassured Davutoglu in December that such a course of action was not Iranian government policy.

Davutoglu says the NATO's defensive shield missile system was in actual fact purely defensive and that the purpose of the system was not to attack any of Turkey's neighbours.

[Ahmet Davutoglu, Turkish Foreign Minister]:
"This is purely a defence system and only radar system based in Turkey and this is a part of NATO security system, defense system and during the negotiations and discussions we especially emphasized and underlined that this system cannot be against any neighbour of Turkey."

Davutoglu also assured his hosts that Turkey would do all it could to help revive nuclear talks between Iran and world powers that stalled one year ago, leading to tough new economic sanctions from Washington and Europe.

Iran is not concerned about the latest U.S. and European sanctions aimed at forcing it to halt its nuclear work.

[Ali Akbar Salehi, Iran's Foreign Minister]:
"The Islamic Republic of Iran by having so many experiences and these experiences have become intensive during these 32 years, by the grace of God, we are always ready to counter such hostile actions and we are not concerned at all about the sanctions that are mentioned."

Salehi confirmed Iran was ready to return to talks with the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and Germany.
