http://www.ted.com In our louder and louder world, says sound expert Julian Treasure, "We are losing our listening." In this short, fascinating talk, Treasure shares five ways to re-tune your ears for conscious listening -- to other people and the world around you.

TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at http://www.ted.com/translate.

  • Skip the loud intro, and press here 0:13

    You're welcome XD

  • So many people complain about how arrogant and stupid everybody around them is [look at top comment by KemaTheAtheist]. Well, by viewing everybody except yourself as stupid and arrogant, isn't that pretty arrogant?

Further more, assuming everyone is stupid without even knowing them or trying to listen or understand even an inkling of what they say, isn't that pretty stupid?

KemaTheAtheists comment, and many others very much sadden me. This is the sort of impatience this guy is talking about!

  • What did he say?

  • @xxxrrrxxxrrr omg me too!! i think its because we read it too fast and say julian

  • @TheThomaswastaken If all people truly listened to each other empathetically, there would not likely be wars. Of course, this would require both sides to listen, not just one.

  • For more than 4 minuteis I was absolutely certain, that the video was: "5 ways to listen Justin Bieber"

Don't ask why I would watch such a video.

  • Homosexual activists understand the power of words.

Please visit my channel to watch a one-minute video clip in which popular atheist author Richard Dawkins admits that homosexual activists "hijacked the word 'gay'".

The word "homosexual" is more appropriate and accurate because it, unlike the word "gay", actually describes the behavior/attraction/relationship being discussed.

The word "gay" helps homosexual activists push their agenda.

  • I have been saying and doing this for years but he summarised it beautifully.

  • They don't want us to listen.

  • I don't think this is really a worthwhile TED talk. He believes that listening is important, because it would stop violence. But there isn't any good reason to make that logical leap from paying attention to ending all wars. Unfortunately this TED talk had the ring of a phony self-help talk. 'Five simple steps to making yourself a better person.' Where is the technology? The entertainment? The design?

  • @greengringo2003 Al Gore is an awesome person full of good intents and great ideas. You have been misled by someone.
