@frosty0929 yes, i heard that too.

@frosty0929 Yes. But that took place after the first name had already been announced. Wojtyla was the only "Charles" (in Latin, Carolum, or Carlum) in the Conclave. There was another Cardinal named Charles, but he was older than 80 and did not take part in the Conclave. So, to an experienced person with a list of names, the announcement of "Dominum Carlum" was all that was needed to presume that Wojtyla was the chosen one, given the unlikelihood of someone outside the conclave being chosen.

Wow -- this is awesome!
At the end they say he's about to give his first speech. You can hear the speech at v=4K_iBXbE3UI.

What a joyful day that was

Love how everyone was instantly taken by him. He was a star the second he stepped onto the balcony, with that big, friendly smile on his face.

The man who ruled the Catholic church during the years of the scandalous cover up of clerical sex abuse!

What a great moment in history.I was nine when this happened.I remember how shocked i was when Pope John1 passed away after serving for only over 30 days.I got up in the morning and my older brother turned on the Today Show and there his body was laying out in white.

We are fortunate to have lived in his lifetime and witnessed him. He was and always will be a treasure!
Did someone in the crowd call out "Wojtyla!" at 0:52, just before the cardinal began to speak?
