Recently I acquired a decent collection of VHS tapes from a local op shop, about a street or two down from where I work. One of the tapes I picked up was a RCA/Columbia Pictures/Hoyts tape of the Cannon film "Breakdance", released using the "Stereo Gold" series of releases.

This clip features the copyright warning, logo, trailer for "The Survivors", starring Robin Williams and Walter Matthau, the "Hoyts presents" logo (Hoyts Distribution released Cannon films in Australia during the 80s), plus the Cannon logo and the first few seconds of the movie.

  • hoyts mostly distributes movies from cannon films in australia.

  • @cameron20101000 Correction - they did. Hoyts today wasn't as big as they were back in the 80s. Hoyts still has their own distribution arm, but that's at a smaller scale, compared to the Australian arms of the Hollywood studios or Roadshow, the major local distributor.

  • @bigdanisstillalive Right, in Australian version of New Line Cinema, Miramax, Dimension movies uses the Village Roadshow instead.

  • @cameron20101000 Well......you're half-right. Until recently, New Line was distributed by Village Roadshow, until Warner Bros took full control, and now their films are released/distributed by Warners down there. Some Miramax and Dimension titles were released by Roadshow back in the early days, but were largely handled by Buena Vista. I know Dimension tiles now are handled by Roadshow, not so sure about the new Miramax.

  • I guess Hoyts distributes some films in Australia (those who belong to unknown companies, anyway!)

  • @JesseLee85719 Yes they do...but read above.

  • @bigdanisstillalive I know now, Miramax is owned by Filmyard Holdings now, go to wikipedia to look up.

  • @bigdanisstillalive Dimension is owned by The Weinstein Company now

I don't about Miramax, maybe the same thing or may still be owned by Buena Vista.

I don't know, wikipedia can tell me.

  • Sweet!
