My garage did a great job off fixing the sensor and applying a spot weld on the hook to stop the play. The play was causing the sensor electrics to burn out.

you have to hold the button down long enough. The roof sounds like it gets jammed but it isn't. it eventually clicks into place and the light on the console will go off.

@slafszoor did u fix this? We have the same problem. VW say replace the electronic unit that controls this but I think we can get away with just replacing the stage 2 sensor. will let you know if it works

I have a question: I have an 05 Beetle GL convertible that I just got today. I can't find this magic "top lowerering" button ANYWHERE in the car and when I try to put it down manually it doesnt sit all the way down. Can someone help me?!?!
