This is a video I was asked to produce for the local police departments. The goal was to inform drivers (particularly teens) the dangers of distracted driving, to remind both drivers and pedestrians of the presence of each other, and to enforce the authority of the crossing guards.

Distractions include: Cell Phones (texting and calling), Radio, Roadside Distractions, Pets, Food, Passengers, and Cosmetics.

This film was difficult to make. It was hard finding a balance between making it fun and light in order to keep the kids interested, but still remaining serious about the content matter. This was the fifth or sixth draft.

In the earlier drafts, Jake Swing (http://youtube.com/sgtmoviemaker) voiced the narrations in the "Duck and Cover" style, but we found that no one got the reference. We had to change it all up and expanded my character (originally, I just get hit by a car), and instead make that victim the focus of the film.

Also- fun note. The town featured in this video is Newtown, PA, where M Night Shyamalan filmed Signs.

  • Now that was pretty good Mr. Lynskey!

However, those cars that the students are driving, would cost a mega buck to insure in the UK for people of that age... sad face D:

  • OWNED!

  • great video Tom. i see this all the time. people should not text,be on the phone on the lap top or any other thing while driving. keep your eyes on the road.

  • Great Job! I know this is a public service vid, but I hope the local police dept. compensated you for it.

  • Great Job!

  • Well done Tom! It really is scary that people are out there doing stuff like that! It seems like I'm always hearing in the news around here of someone killing themselves or someone else because of stuff like this! If only a small fraction of people that watch it make sure they don't text and drive, some peoples' lives will be saved!

I loved the look on your face when you rolled up the windshield! And when you walked into the post!

    :P

  • 6 people were teens and then relized what they were acually doing
