Location: Below A Street Pier, Hull MA in Hingham Bay
Water temperature: 8 C

The Reef Explorer II (REX2) AUV explored and inspected the pilings and docks. Several organisms were observed including the introduced species Didemnum vexillum. The pale yellow Didemnum colonies are seen encrusting the wooden pilings. The REX2 robotic submarine was developed in and is operated by the MIT Sea Grant Autonomous Underwater Vehicles Laboratory.

Field operations were performed by MIT research staff Mike Soroka and Seth Newburg with senior investigators Chrys Chryssostomidis, Judy Pederson, and Franz Hover in collaboration with Emmanuel Boss of University of Maine and Bob Whitlatch of University of Connecticut. This work is part of a regional project of the Sea Grant College Program.
