whenever youre faced with a person up at the net trying to put away the point as a volley, (almost) always aim down-the-line. if crosscourt, hit it at an extremely sharp angle

Try hitting it earlier, or try hitting the bottom right corner of the ball and finishing on the top left corner of the ball.
-
You could lob it, or you could just spin the heck out of the ball and get it back to them low.

how do u return a low hard ball do u just dink it bak or take a full swing?
-
you completely leave your legs out of your strokes...which results in an immense loss of power..you don't play this way competitively do you?
-
You're hitting the ball a bit late. Hit it earlier. Try getting someone to feed you some balls and try hitting it earlier.
-
FOLLOW ALL THE WAY THROUGH

that relaxed hand idea is great

Generally, if you can move in a half step or a full step (depending on how far up the sideline or center service line your opponent's slice serve is landing), you can return the slice serve before the full effect of the slice kicks in. Putting the ball away on the return depends on how balanced and ready you are when you hit your return. Getting it back deep (or low if your opponent has come in behind the serve) is usually good enough.
Hi YYNBC and very good question...
Occaisionally you may have to "firm" up the grip to provide some stability for really heavy incoming shots with pace, but in general, squeezing tight or applying too much pressure on the handle only slows down racket speed and inhibits your ability to swing out towards your target, produce spin, and takes away from being able to "absorb" incoming pace and re-direct.
