I dont believe that Hillary is the best Person for Presidentacy I say this because not only I dont bleieve she gives any anttention to the Deaf community allthough she might say she does But she honestly only cares about the Money. SHe is never talking about the Deaf community in her interveiws. she is more concerned about her own welfare than the welfare of Others
I was born deaf and mainstreamed. I can talk and read lips. I worked for my parents' successful construction company for more than twenty years as a book keeper and accounting. Due to the status of my deafness and gender (female), I got shafted by Hearing 9 year older half brother after our parents died within two years of each other. Half brother had help from relatives and friends who are lawyers and judges. I lost my Rights and inheritance to the "few who consider themselves worthy".
Kudos to Terrylene for bringing this important topic up about Deaf babies being exposed to ASL!
Strong language foundation starts in early language acquisition stages (birth to 3 years old) which is why it is crucial to have a law to make it required for every parent to know about the research facts on using bilingual approach in order to help their academic achievement.
My opinion: I do not think Hillary Clinton is familiar with the issues concerning the Deaf. Had she been invited to speak in Deaf-sponsored events during the Clinton administration, or her tenure as N.Y. Senator?
Deaf adults struggle with their English in life... perhaps a good idea would be to encourage them to enroll in an adult English class at a community center for the Deaf. The instructor teaching the class should be certified in Deaf Education and fluent in ASL.
