The original musical comedy by Bill Leavengood and Lee Ahlin centers on Doc Webb, one of the most colorful entrepreneurs in the history of Florida. The Palladiums concert version of the show, a form made famous by the Encore! series at the City Center in New York, will offer all the essential scenes and songs with minimal scenery and costumes. Against the backdrop of todays economic downturn, the story of a fearless dreamer who built his business during the Great Depression is particularly timely and hopeful. Webbs City follows the great booms and busts of the American 20th century that paralleled the booms and busts of Doc Webbs life the dissolution of his first marriage, the 30-year-romance of his second marriage, his support of the African-American community, and the ongoing battle with his maverick son, Jimmy.
