This actually reminds me of what my adoptive parents did. They turned everything about respect on its end. No matter what I said it was one of the following: Stupid, negative, disrespectful, jerk, idiot, worthless, hopeless... but then I met my mother and she told me none of those things were true and now this song is telling me the same thing. I now know that I'm a genuinely nice person that is easily taken advantage of and simply knowing that makes it harder for me to be taken advantage of.
