(4/9) The Warsaw Uprising of 1944 — a heroic and tragic 63-day struggle to liberate World War 2 Warsaw from Nazi/German occupation. Undertaken by the Home Army (Armia Krajowa, AK), the Polish resistance group, at the time Allied troops were breaking through the Normandy defenses and the Red Army was standing at the line of the Vistula River.

Warsaw could have been one of the first European capitals liberated; however, various military and political miscalculations, as well as global politics — played among Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) — turned the dice against it.

@TheTollundWoman Stalin? No! Shame on British and American "allies" that abandoned Poland to Stalin. Warsaw Uprising was followed by 1944 to 1956 repression era of yiddish speaking, soviet trained, commissars of Jakub Berman. They imprisoned, tortured, executed and deported more Polish people than WW II consumed.

@TheTollundWoman if the poles had liberated themselves it would have been harder for stalin to put them under soviet occupation. It did not make sense for stalin to help

My third, and last comment. This is movie about Polish Uprising of 1944. You're still talking about Ghetto Uprising of 1943. Both of those acts were heroic and tragic but they were to different incidents.Many of Jewish insurgents were Polish patriots as well, especially fighters from Jewish Military Union and Polish resistance took it part in figthing and suppling insurgents too. KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT THE TOPIC. Then write comments. Ok?
