  • I don't know about everyone else.. but my proffession is hardly a straight line. I borrow from most disciplines I learned in college at some point of the day.. business.. coding logic, math, literacy from english classes you name it... each part contributes in some way to my field (I am a platform analyst)

  • @dracdoc I respect that, but mostly I am talking about from a point of owning your own business. In the business world it's about serving people, the more you serve the more money you can make. Like your cologne channel, you can turn that into a money making machine and make more than you can at your job. Is college needed for that?

  • If passing tests don't matter, then let a Dr. that hasn't passed tests cut you open, then sue him w/ an attorney that hasn't passed the bar.

  • @judutchinski this is probably one of the areas where education is needed. But I guarantee you, most is learned when they are hands on not in the classroom.

  • Brother Mohammed I have question I'm currently finishing my freshmen year in college and thinking about majoring in international business as I also have passion for traveling and business, but many of my friends are telling me that this degree is useless unlike finance or accounting, I don't knw but is this true? Please I don't mean to offend u but thats what I been told by many.

  • @gadsawi4ever I will never tell you to dropout just remember that business is really learned with you boots on the ground

  • i think that a trade school is really good if u know exactly what you want to do and so in a year u can learn how to be a mechanic of that specific car, motorcycle, or whatever. i think on average or atleast the ones i have done some research on they cost 30 to 45 grand a year but most are one year or less programs so... 45 grand is way better than spending 88grand like most state colleges or more.

  • Education purpose is to learn how to formulate thoughts and for communications. I agree with you when it comes to a specialized area of education if you are persuing a specific skill set. Education is basically becoming the authority on a subject. I think a lot of people who are less educated develop feelings of inferior complexes and it causes them to make negative decisions like crime. Then they discover the importance of education when its too late. We need the basics for all platforms.

  • @gadsawi4ever International business has never been a useful career. Same with Customs. As the economy is going down, this career is even more useless. Business is getting killed. Search the BALTIC DRY INDEX and you will see the amounts of products being shipped between nations. The economy is about to go belly up, and that will be the most useless career.

  • @mohammedabshaun Scients shouldn't go to school, then, either.

Once you become rich, after we recover from the depression that's coming, in about 50 years, I hope you remember to hire an accountant who hasn't gone to school.

  • @judutchinski LOL.

A jab and a knock out!

  • @mohammedabshaun Accept you're wrong.

School teaches you a lot more than to open a business.

You get grammar so you don't make grammar mistakes when you speak, like some Black guys from the Antilles I know who talk about money on You Tube. School teaches you general education, and the right language as well as the comnnections a business has to the rest of the productive area of the economy.

There are a lot more than the basic principles of business that you study at college.

  • The uneducated will say NO.

  • @mohammedabshaun - i would respectfully say it benefits in most areas than not. A degree is a separate story. But a top school is invaluable for exposure to things. It's not just history lessons. To steve jobs he sees opportunity like in his typography classes. You'd say hogwash. Doesnt mean degree though I can attest from my pedigree all my classmates are world leaders in the field. It's GOOD schools that matter, not shitty ones. If you went to one you'd have alot more to draw from than not.

  • great point "learning business from someone who never owned a business" soomething I have thought about too. I know in my profession, professors are a lot of people who couldn't handle a high school classroom.

  • I am mostly against it as a practical thing.I really didn't learn much in college that taught me how to be a teacher.College is basically a weeding out process for employers, the gen idea is you went, finished, better prospect. As far as general knowledge, it is 'ok' but in a perfect world they should have got that general knowledge in high school. As far as business, yes and no, college can be great for connections.I have never went to business school so I don't know exactly what they teach.
