@mcrss26 I've done this before and the mouse was still alive after I withdrew the needle.
However, most animal protocols treat this as a terminal procedure; also you are supposed to euthanize the animal immediately after a cardiac puncture. Complications are frequent to the mice, if they were allowed to live on, so the humane (?) thing to do is to euthanize it.

@zhouyangnju You never put the needle cap back on unless the needle is going to be reused. (You should never reuse needles anyways)

@mcrss26 He's dead as soon as you start collecting blood from cardiac puncture. We put them to sleep first.

putting the needle cap on before taking the needle off the syringe is not professional at all. you should never put the cap back on the needle. You can hurt yourself . ALWAYS put used needles directly in a puncture-resistant sharps container immediately after use
